well you see, 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d5 4s2 is manganese if it becomes 2+ then it loses 4s2 first so it would now look like 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d5 which is manganese 2+ but has the spdf of vanadium

hope im helpful

surely i don't know sodium atom which can be gained 2 electrons but anyway i thought the answer is Na+2

How do you know how many electrons are gained or lost in an atom?

You can determine how many electrons are gained or lost by looking at the atom's charge. If the atom gains electrons, it becomes negatively charged; if it loses electrons, it becomes positively charged. The difference between the atom's original and final charge tells you how many electrons were gained or lost.

When an atom in no longer neutral it exists with a charge an atom that has a charge is called a?

When an atom is no longer neutral and has gained or lost electrons, it is called an ion. An atom that has gained electrons will have a negative charge (an anion), while an atom that has lost electrons will have a positive charge (a cation).

Does Aluminium lose or gain electrons?

Oh, dude, aluminum loses electrons like it's trying to shed some weight before summer. It's all like, "See ya, electrons, I don't need you weighing me down." So yeah, aluminum loses electrons to become positively charged because it's all about that positive energy, you know?

If an element gains electrons what type of oxidation number does it have and how do you know?

If an element gains electrons, it has a negative oxidation number. The oxidation number is determined based on the number of electrons gained or lost by an atom in a compound. The rule is that in ionic compounds, the oxidation number of an element is equal to the charge it would have if it were an ion.

Which subatomic particle carries a negative charge?

An electron is the subatomic particle that has a negative charge.A proton has a positive charge and neutron has a neutral charge. These three together form all known particles (except hydrogen, that doesn't normally have a neutron). The protons and neutrons form the nuclie. The electrons form shells around it, they are held in place by there attration to the protons. Ions are atoms that have lost or gained electrons. e.g.[Zn]+1is a zinc alom that has gaind an electron.

An atom that has fewer protons than electrons is called what?

Generally an atom has equal number of electrons and protons. and we know that electrons are negatively charged and protons are positively charged so atom is neutral. But when an atom loses electrons it acquires a positive charge. And this positive species is called cation.
