There are many types of volcanoes, but these are the main ones:

Composite/Strato- These are formed by alternating layers of lava and rock fragments. They are the large, colossal volcanoes that usually pop into your mind first when thinking of volcanoes. Mt. Hood and Mt. Rainier are examples of this.

Shield- They are very large in size, but not normally very tall because the lava that comes out is very runny and doesn't pile up. This kind of lava is called basaltic lava. Mauna Loa in Hawaii (or Hawaii itself!) is a shield.

Cinder cones- Are relatively small. They form in clusters around other volcanoes over vents. Paricutín in Mexico is a famous example that grew 300 feet in 5 days.

Spatter cones- Formed quickly when the lava has enough gasses for it to explode. After it does so, they sink back into the ground soon afterward.

Complex- Any volcano that consists of more than one vent (mostly all of them, technically)

Name the different types of volcanoes according to their shape?

There are three types of volcanoes which have different shapes and types of eruptions. * Shield Volcanoes - are low and flat and have small, flowing eruptions. * Composite Volcanoes - are a mixture between shield volcanoes and cone volcanoes, their eruptions are explosive. * Cone Volcanoes - are the tallest and largest volcanoes, and they have VERY explosive eruptions.

What variables with in volcanoes cause different types of eruptions?

The amount of gas and the pressure in the volcanoes.

Why are there different shaped volcanoes?

Different shaped volcanoes occur because of the way the magma flows. Three types of volcanoes are shield, composite, and caldera.

Do volcanoes always extrude magmas of the same type?

No, volcanoes can extrude a variety of magma types, which can vary in composition, temperature, and viscosity. Different types of volcanoes, like stratovolcanoes and shield volcanoes, often produce different types of magma due to variations in geological conditions and processes.
