Turkey is located at 39°00'N and 35°00'E. It is at the northeast end of the Mediterranean Sea in the middle-east. It is bordered on the north by the Black Sea, the east by Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. The south, by Iraq, Syria and the Arabian Sea, and on the west by the Arabian Sea and Bulgaria. As of July 2010, Turkey's estimated population is 77,804,122 with a population growth rate of about 1.272%. 30% of the land is arable land, 3% is permanent crops and 67% is other. There are 52,150 square kilometers of irrigated land. The main religion is Muslim (mostly Sunni) and the main languages spoken are Turkish and Kurdish. The literacy rate is 87.4%.
