The Michigan electric and natural gas utility changed from Consumers Power to Consumers Energy in 1997. Consumers Energy is Michigan's second-largest electric and natural gas utility, providing service to more than 6 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 counties in the Lower Peninsula. Consumers Energy is the principal subsidiary of Jackson-based CMS Energy Corporation. The utility is headquartered in Jackson, Mich., with customer service centers located throughout the state. Principal cities provided electric service are Battle Creek, Bay City, Cadillac, Flint, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Midland, Muskegon and Saginaw.
