Hurricane Dean was a hurricane that formed in the Atlantic Ocean in 2007. It was the most intense hurricane since Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Dean had a high sustained wind speed of 175 mph and a low central pressure of 905 mbar or 26.74 inHg. It affected alot of the carribean islands and then the Yucatan peninsula. It was also the first to make landfall as a Category 5 hurricane since hurricane Andrew in 1992 although it was not too dangerous because the area it hit was sparsly populated.
Breif History: formed on August 11, 2007 off the west coast of Africa and became Tropical depression four about 520 miles west-southwest of Cape Verde. It was quicly upgraded to tropical strom dean at about 3:00 pm on August 14, 2007 and was again upgraded this time to hurricane dean at 9:00 am on August 16, 2007. It moved towards the carribean and became a category 2 and then 3 on the 17th and formed a good eyewall. On the evening of the 17th it strenghthed again to a category 4 and grew stedily through the night. The next day it went through and eyewall replacement cycle fluctuating in wind speed but by the evening of august 19th continued to intensify again and by 8:35 am on August 20th it had become a category 5 hurricane with winds of 175 mph. It made landfall later around Quintana Roo, a region in the Mexican Yucatan about 40 miles north of the Belize border and reemerged on the other side of the peninsula as a category one but quicly restrenghted and made landfall a second time at 11:30 Near Tecolutla, Veracruz, Mexico sout of Tuxpan. It lost strenghth and again reemerged, this time in the pacific as a weak tropical strom. It didn't strenghthen much again and remade landfall around the 26th (time unknown) by the baja peninsula in santa Barbara California and disipated over southern united states on the 27th while causing flash flooding in the Mojave Desert.
Total deaths was about 44 and total damage cost was 6.6 million US dollars. This name will not be reused for the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season.
