Had Rutherford's gold foil been mostly empty space most of it would have been non existent, but instead all of it was there, he could see it and he could touch it, the radiation went through SOMETHING because SOMETHING was definitely there. The only way this current model could be possible is if visibility and tangibility were simply fragments of our imaginations and I highly doubt that.
