In English, the region of the near east that includes Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan, is all collectively known as "The Levant" or the "Eastern Mediterranean." In Arabic it is known as "Bilad El-Sham." As a general rule, because travel was so difficult from ancient times until the mid 20th century, breeding pools were restricted, heavily restricted due to both geography, as well as semitic sectarianism. Note that I use the word semitic, not Arab. ALL semitic peoples were "racist;" they did not marry outside their tribe. Because of the heavy inbreeding, and the restricted breeding pools, as a general rule, Arabs and middle easterners in general, can tell where someone comes from just from their looks. In fact, this can be done in virtually all places of the world except the Americas, specially North America. Most Americans don't understand the notion of a country that is very old; because various European groups blended together here, and in time became known as "the white people," most Americans simply can not understand what restrictive breeding will do. Again, most places of the world, culturally, are not as "young" as the U.S.; because throughout human history travel was slow and difficult, people's breeding pools were severely restricted to a 50 mile radius. Throughout the world, in countries that are culturally 1,000 years or older, people can tell each other apart, just on looks alone. Again, if a breeding pool is limited, certain characeristics become most prominent. The Middle East is no different; there IS a difference, between an Arab whose ancestry is in Saudi Arabia, and an Arab whose ancestry is from Bilad El Sham, because of that, the claim Palestinians have on Israel is at best, questionable. You are going to trust someone who says they belong to Palestine, when they look Syrian? The region, where the overpowering majority of Palestinians are from, is Jordan, that is why the so-called "Palestinian" population of Jordan, you can not tell apart from the "native" one. In their dishonesty, many Arabs readily exploit western ignorance, however they are more careful around Europeans, who better understand that in the older places of the world, restrictive breeding due to difficult travel in days past, makes it so that certain physical traits, are indeed inherent to region. Even in small countries such as Austria for example, people can tell what region a given Austrian is from just from looks. [[User:67.148.120.72|67.148.120.72]]stardingo747
