The Rocky Mountains are younger and still actively rising due to tectonic activity, creating taller and more rugged peaks. In contrast, the Appalachian Mountains are older and have been eroded over time, resulting in smoother, lower peaks.
The Appalachian Mountains were formed millions of years ago when continental collisions and tectonic forces caused the Earth's crust to uplift and fold. Over time, erosion and other geological processes have altered the landscape, but the mountains remain in their current location due to the strength and stability of the North American plate.
Only high in the mountains and on glaciers does it remain snow covered.
I don't know if Mount Cheha (pronounced cheeehaa) is a mountain range but it is the highest point in Alabama, and located A little northeast of Birmingham near the Talladega National forest. I believe it is a part of the Appalacians or the Smokies, most likely the Smokies. Alabama has pretty much every kind of natural landscape, mountain, valleys, plains, wetlands, oceanfront, we got it all except deserts. We are known as Alabama the Beautiful for our wonderous natural beauty. Thank You for your intrest.
West Virginia gets it nickname from all its mountains and hills such as the Appalachian Mountains extend through the eastern portion of the state. West Virginia is called the Mountain State because much of it is in the mountainous terrain of the Appalachian Highlands.

The Appalachians are much older, therefore exhibiting much greater erosion
Pretty hard to say given that they are all the same chain of mountains that run down the East of the United States. They are all part of the Appalachian Mountains and are much older than the Rocky Mountains.
Around two-thirds of California is covered by mountains, including the Sierra Nevada, Coast Ranges, and Cascade Range. These mountain ranges contribute to the diverse geography and climates in the state.
