It is essentially impossible to predict solar flares beyond broad guidelines.

Will there be an abundance of solar flares in 2012?

We really have no idea how active the Sun will be during 2012. Because this is the period of increasing activity (we're currently about 1.5 years into the 11-year sunspot cycle) we can expect that there will be more flares in 2012 than we'll have in 2011, and probably quite a few more than we had in 2010. But whether 2012 will be anywhere close to a record would be impossible to say at this point. However, depending on the direction and severity of a solar flare, an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) can be generated, powerful enough to damage electrical equipment (cell phones, computers, cameras, etc.). I myself looked into forms of protection against these threats. Beyond just knowing the facts there are products out there to help. There is a website listed in the related source links below

After 2010 when will the naxt solar eclipse be?

After 2010 the next partial solar eclipse will be January 4th 2011. The next annular solar eclipse will be May 20th 2012 and the next total solar eclipse will be November 3rd 2013.

What effects do solar flares have on the solar maximum emission?

Solar maximum is a period of time in which solar flares are more common and more powerful. Sometimes there are coronal emissions that send a massive amount of plasma hurling through space at speeds close to or over one million miles an hour. All they really do is cause the Aurora Borealis (northern lights), however if the earth were to be hit hard enough that the plasma overwhelms the magnetic field it could strip away our atmosphere and earth would be as livable as Mars. The next solar maximum cycle will begin in 2012. Astronomers believe that it will be the most powerful cycle ever seen. So starting in October of 2012 go outside and look for the Aurora Borealis. Last time we had a maximum such as this the lights were seen as far south as Rome, Italy.

Can solar flares affect earth's weather?

Yes. Solar Flares do affect earth. As earth is protected by a very strong magnetic field, the effect is of no actual danger to life on earth. For the planet it self, solar flares would not be of any danger at all even if life were exterminated by their magnitude. Solar Flares do cause implications regarding electronics placed in orbits around the earth. They can during violent sun-storms cause saturation in electronics and burn circuitry. This particularly in satellite's. For humans... The danger is only theoretical as in if sun-storms become so violent that they penetrate the magnetic field protecting our planet. This does not often happen and even if it happens, this would most likely only be marginally.

When is the next solar eclipse going to happen in Colorado?

There will be an annular/partial solar eclipse on May 20, 2012.

Does sun flare attack the earth in 2012?

No. There will be solar flares in 2012 - there are flares every year, even the last couple of years during the depth of the deepest solar minimum in the last century - but solar flares do not "attack the Earth". It is possible that a massive solar flare could cause communications outages, or damage satellites, or cause spectacular auroras - but that could happen ANY time. There were a few satellites damaged by solar flares during the last solar max, in 2002, but the doom-sayers were wrong about that one, too.

Could a solar flare destroy the earth?

No, a solar flare cannot destroy the Earth. While solar flares can have significant impacts on our technology and infrastructure, they do not have the capability to destroy the planet. Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field provide natural protection from the harmful effects of solar flares.

Why does a solar flare cause the internet to be slow?

Usually, solar flares are small and relatively unnoticeable. But recently the sun is releasing massive solar flares. If these solar flares are strong enough, they scramble all electronic signals. That includes phones, television stations, radio stations, car radios, Internet signals and even R/C toys. These are taking affect today because of the sun's current alignment in the center of the galaxy. Though these flares are still relatively harmless to the devices hardware and mainframe. Don't confuse this at all with the Dec 21, 2012 proficiency. This is a year round event that just happens to be very strong this year.

Will there be a solar flare on 12-21-2012?

Quite possibly. There is no way to predict solar flares with any accuracy more than about 18 HOURS ahead of time, and you're asking for 18 MONTHS, so the honest answer has to be "We don't know." But this is the rising slope of the solar cycle, and by December 2012 we could be approaching the peak, such as it will be, of Solar Cycle 24. This cycle was late getting started and so far is quite mediocre in activity, but there is certainly a chance of major solar flares on December 21, 2012. (However, it will have NOTHING to do with the supposed end of the Mayan calendar cycle and the superstition about a cataclysm which may or may not be predicted.)

What effect does the sun have on the solar system?

even though the sun looks small, it is very big and sends solar flares. if a flare hits earth, it will be violently bombarded. scientists, like me, believe that might happen next year (2012).

When will 2012 occur?

2012 is already over. It is 2013 now. Similar to other years, 2012 started on January 1, 2012 and ended on December 31, 2012.

Next solar maximum?

A solar maximum is when the number of sunspots increase. These sunspots are thought to be caused by interplay between the sun's plasma and its magnetic field. The next solar maximum will be on 2024.

Will the 2012 solar storm be catastrophic for our planet?

Solar storms cannot be predicted in advance, so there is no way of knowing what effects any solar storms in 2012 will have. However, it is highly unlikely that anything more than damage to satellites and the power grid will occur at the absolute most.
