Becuse of certain food alergies. If someone is severly alergic to fish and say peas are geneticlly alertered with fish genes to make it grow faster, then that preson could have an alergic reaction to the peas. How do we know we'r not going to eat something that is personally bad for us. People with peanut alergies can die if they eat them and sometime food that was made in the same facility as peanuts.

Does McCain use genetically modified potatoes?

McCain does not use genetically modified potatoes in its products. They source their potatoes from a network of local farmers who follow Good Agricultural Practices to ensure quality and sustainability.

It's a good idea for scientists to create genetically modified crops?

Yes, creating genetically modified crops can be beneficial as they can enhance food security by increasing yield and resistance to pests and diseases. These modifications can also allow crops to thrive in challenging environmental conditions, such as drought or poor soil quality. Additionally, genetically modified crops can be engineered to improve nutritional content, addressing malnutrition in vulnerable populations. However, careful assessment of ecological and health impacts is essential to ensure their safe integration into agriculture.

What are foods that are good to put in an earthquake kit?

Non-perishable, high energy foods are good to have in any emergency preparedness kit. These foods include nuts, protein and granola bars. You should also have at least 24 hours of bottled water.

What is golden rice?

Golden rice is a genetically-modified variety of rice which produces beta-carotene (pro-vitamin A) in the rice grain. The presence of the carotene (an orange-yellow pigment) gives the rice its golden colour. In the body, beta-carotene can be used to produce vitamin A. It was developed to prevent diseases such as blindness which can be caused by lack of vitamin A in the diet of poor people. Each year, 250 000 to 500 000 children go blind because of vitamin A deficiency. Golden rice was created by Ingo Potrykus of the Institute of Plant Sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, working with Peter Beyer of the University of Freiburg. However, some people oppose the use of genetically-modified crops, including golden rice, and it has not yet been made available for use. You may view the related links below for more information

Are gm foods good for us?

GM foods are brilliant. WOOOOOO! Genetically modified foods cannot be collectively put into a "good" or a "bad" category. Depending on how they are modified, they may be very good for us, very bad for us, or anywhere in between.

How are genetically modified organics good?

There is actually no such thing as genetically modified organics. Organic foods cannot be grown from GMO seeds and the only way it would (and does) contain GMOs is if it is contaminated with them during growth or processing.

Is genetically altered food good for you?

There are different types of genetically altered foods. Hybridization has been used for decades and breeds plants within the same species (corn with corn, beans with beans, etc.). This is called vertical breeding. Foods referred to as genetically modified (GMO) involve removing a gene from one species (often a bacteria) and inserting it into another species (often corn or soybeans, though there are others). That is greatly simplified, but gives a general idea of how it is done. These foods are transgenic, and are bred through horizontal breeding. It is not known whether they are good for you, and there is some evidence that they are harmful. There is no evidence that they are more nutritious than non-GMO foods.

What does the Catholic Church believe about genetically modified food?

The Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ (see 1 Cor 12:12-14, Colossians 1:15-2:3). As such, the Church preaches the Good News of salvation to people, it brings Christ to people, and people to Christ. Genetically modified food is not exactly on its agenda as it is not included in revelation. Peter Cardinal Turkson, when addressing this issue pointed out the Church's belief that there is nothing in Christian belief either for or against modifying nature, and that Christian actions are never neutral. He also called for genetically modified foods to be labeled as such.

Why are genetically modified organisms good?

It provides a faster lower cost way to get desired traits than standard selective breeding does.

Is genetically modified food safe to eat?

Some say they are safe, others say they are not safe, and others say the safety of GMOs is not known. Since long-term human or animal studies were not done before they were introduced into the food chain, the safety of GMO foods is not actually known. There is some evidence that the GMOs, the herbicides used on them, and/or the substance produced in certain genetically engineered crops does cause health issues in humans.

Is modern agriculture good or bad?

Modern agriculture is neither good nor bad. It is very important. Some people do not like that some crops are being genetically modified.

Is genetically modified soya good?

What do people think of genetically modified food?

Some people believe that GM0 foods are safe and necessary to feed the world. Others believe they are harmful, if not dangerous, to the environment and human and animal health. Still others believe there may be a dark agenda behind them.

Which person is least likely to be concerned about potential long-term side effects of genetically modified (GM) food ?

The terminally ill are unlikely to be worried about the possible long term side-effects of gm foods. The elderly may also not be too concerned. Young children are unlikely to be concerned about gm foods. And most scientists are also unlikely to be concerned (the safety record of gm foods is pretty good).

Are GMOs healthy for you?

Some claim science shows GMO foods are just as healthy as non-GMO foods. The FDA has declared GMO foods to be substantially equivalent to non-GMO foods. Anecdotal evidence suggests GMO foods have health issues that are unique to them. It is likely that the answer to whether GMOs are healthy is actually "We really do not know."
