1. The sunlight is not as strong there.

2. There is no water (found water) on Mars.

3. The air composition is different there.

4. The ground contains none of the nutrients that are necessary to grow plants.

If you were an astronaut, and you brought oxygen, a strong flashlight, water and a seed with some soil you would be able to place it there and make it grow but your own oxygen tank would have run out by then, so technically, you cannot grow plants on Mars.

What would you need in order to get plants to grow on mars?

Water, a denser atmosphere with carbon dioxide, and warmer weather.

Can you grow plants in mars soil?

The jury is still out on that, but based on careful and thorough analysis of samples collected from Mars so far, the majority scientific opinion is that it's unlikely.

Can you grow weed on mars?

No. Mars is too cold and lacks water. No plant from earth could grow there. Mars also has about 1% of the atmospheric pressure as Earth, and the decreased levels of sunlight per square meter would make outdoor growth unpractical. However, given a fully contained environment, such as a solarium with artificial light, air, water, and heat, it has recently been found that plants actually grow better Mars soil than in Earth soil. See "Mars One" or Wieger Wamelink for more details.

Which of the things plants need to grow are present on Mars?

Mars has sunlight, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and water ice that could potentially be used to support plant growth. However, the thin atmosphere and low temperatures on Mars present challenges for plant survival and growth. Additional resources like nutrients and protection from radiation would need to be provided in a controlled environment for plants to thrive on Mars.
