Most scientists consider viruses as the link between living an non living organisms. Viruses are considered non-living by some scientists because -

1) They donot perform any metabolic activities.

2) Outside the host cell , viruses are present only in crystalised form. (Even after it is un-crystalised , it does not lose it's capacity for infection)

3) It does not require any sort of "food".

Are viruses multicellular or unicellular?

Viruses are considered acellular entities because they are not composed of cells like living organisms. They are made up of genetic material (RNA or DNA) enclosed in a protein coat, and they require a host cell to replicate.

Do viruses have a cell membrane?

No, viruses do not have a cell membrane. They are considered acellular entities that consist of genetic material (DNA or RNA) encapsulated in a protein coat called a capsid. Viruses require a host cell to replicate and do not have the ability to carry out cellular functions on their own.

Are viruses carnivore omnivores or herbivores?

If I had to pick one, I'd say heterotrophic, but really they're not any of the above. Autotrophic (which includes hemosynthetic) and heterotrophic describe where a living thing gets its energy. Viruses aren't really living things. Also, they don't produce their own energy. Let's take poliovirus as an example. It consists of genetic material (RNA) inside a capside (a shell made of protein). It just floats until it binds to a receptor, gets taken up by a cell, and releases its RNA into the cell. All of this is done with the cell's energy. Then it uses the cell's supplies of molecules, machinery, and energy to replicate, making more copies of itself. It never actually produces ATP energy.
