Assuming you're talking about an electrophoresis gel for separating DNA:

DNA is itself negatively charged because it contains phosphate groups. Thus, when you apply a current, it will move towards the positive electrode at the other end of the gel. If the DNA were placed at the positive end of the gel, it would migrate backwards and you'd lose the sample.

What is the purpose of the comb in gel electrophoresis?

The comb is placed in slots on the side of the casting tray. It is put in the slots BEFORE the hot, melted gel is poured. After the gel solidifies, the comb is taken out. The "teeth" of the comb leave small holes in the gel that we call "wells."

What are some potential designs for a gel electrophoresis chamber?

a box and a chamber and a lid and a comb A gel electrophoresis can be made two different ways---horizontal or vertical. I'm doing a project with it right now, and honestly, I prefer the horizontal. I don't know how the vertical works, but the horizontal is pretty much a box inside a box with the lid and comb. The bigger box, or your chamber, should be large enough to fit all the wiring on each ends of it, and the smaller box, or the box, in the middle. Your box should have two removable walls on the ends in which the wells are facing, and slits on one end for the comb to go into. You should put the comb in and fill the box up with the gel, and when it dries, you take the comb out and take off both walls. The charge can then run through the walls and to the other side of the chamber.

If pieces of DNA are cut and need to be put back together what do you use?

For rejoining DNA fragments, you can use DNA ligase enzyme, which catalyzes the formation of phosphodiester bonds between adjacent DNA fragments. This process is commonly used in molecular biology techniques like PCR and gene cloning.

What is DNA fingerprint?

DNA fingerprinting (aka DNA profiling) is a scientific procedure used to determine identity or parentage using DNA. Variable Number Tandem Repeats (VNTR) are found in the nucleotides of a DNA strand. When there is a pattern of two or more nucleotides that is repeated, and the repeated patterns are directly adjacent to each other (CATCATCAT) this is a VNTR. These VNTR show up when used in gel electrophoresis, and this outcome can be used to compare DNA samples. If the pattern in the gel for a a blood sample matches the pattern in the gel for an adult, the blood most likely belongs to the adult.

In gel electrophoresism DNA fragments migrate toward one end of a gel because that are?

In gel electrophoresis, DNA fragments migrate toward one end of a gel because they are negatively charged and are attracted to the positive electrode at the opposite end of the gel. The smaller DNA fragments move faster through the gel matrix while the larger fragments move more slowly.

What gel will make your hair super spikey?

try the "Moco De Gorila" hair gel Before you put gel in your hair wash it and blow dry straight up or in the direction you want the spikes and then gel it. Fructis do a great concrete hold gel too.

What is gel electrophoresis and how is it used to analyze?

Gel electrophoresis is a common method to study DNA. It is a very basic way of comparing the mass (mostly size or length of DNA). The main principle behind gel electrophoresis is that DNA has a slight negative charge. When put in a gel (usually agarose gel) DNA will travel through the gel towards a positive charge, which is generated by the electrophoresis machine. The basic idea behind it, is that DNA will travel through the gel towards the positive pole and away the negative pole of the electrophoresis machine. The smaller the fragment, the further it will travel towards the positive pole, as it will go through the gel quickly. The larger fragments will travel slower towards the positive pole, and will travel less compared to the small fragments. This is how one can quickly compare size of DNA fragments, and possibly even compare between 2 or more DNA strands and find similarities.

How is DNA fingerprinting done?

evryone has a unique finger print. Evryone has diffrent DNA (exept for twins). DNA and finger prints are taken from evryone and put on a data base. using the unique fingerprints you can find that person. clever stuff!

Is there numbing spray that you can use when piercing your bellybutton?

Usually the piercer will have numbing gel which they will put on before piercing, but if you want it numbed find out before you have it done!
