Internal standard is primarily used to increase the accuracy and precision of analytical methods that have large inherent variability. The method is used in chromatography (GC, HPLC) where a compound similar to the analyte of interest is added to the sample and run. By having the analyte and the standard elute in the same run, the run to run variability is eliminated giving more precise results. Obviously one needs to calibrate the responses of the internal standard with that of the analyte. Incidental benefits are saving time and money by having less runs.

Hope this is useful.

Differences of Hexokinase and glucokinase?

n nHexokinase: Its function is to make sure there is enough glc for the tissues, even in the presence of low blood glc concentrations, by phosphorylating all the glc concentration gradient between the blood and the intracellular environment. n nGlucokinase: Its function is to remove glc from the blood following a meal. n n(Hexokinase, Phosphofructokinase and pyruvate kinase, are 3 regulatory enzymes of glycolysis.) nLiver has an additional enzyme, glucokinase, that phosphorylate only glc n n1. Glucokinase has a high Km because it phosphorylates glc only when its concentration is high. This occurs during the brief period after consumption of a carbohydrate rich meal, when high glc are delivered by portal vein. n n2. Glucokinase has a high Vmax, allowing the liver to remove effectively this flood of glc from the portal blood. So this prevents extreme hyperglycemia after meals. n

What are the uses of gas chromatography?

Gas-liquid chromatography (GLC), or simply gas chromatography (GC), is a common type of chromatography used in organic chemistry for separating and analyzing compounds that can be vaporized without decomposition.

What are examples of partition chromatography?

Chromatography is generally used to separate out different orgainc substances and to characterise these substances. The process involves a stationary phase, a mobile phase and either a coloured substance or a UV active stationary phase. In the case of Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) a drop of the sample to be tested is placed on a plate of silica gel containing a chromaphore (a UV active substance). The end of the plate with the drop of sample is placed into the mobile phase. The mobile phase will travel up the plate taking with it the components of the sample. The smaller the component the further it will travel. This can then be viewed using a UV light.
