'joto'?

'era una jota' = 'it was a 'jota' (Aragonese dance)' OR 'it was a letter 'j''

OR 'it was a tittle' (small matter, matter of no importance)

According to the Royal Spanish Academy Website the word "joto" means either:

1. a small package

or

2. a disrespectful coloquial reference to a homosexual man common in Mexico and Honduras.

The phrase "era un joto" when Googled showed 13,300 hits. On the first page every single instance referred to homosexual men in a derogatory fashion. Now I see no reason to pretend that "joto" means the letter J when it's male or an Argonese dance when that's "jota" not "joto" just because someone's feelings might be hurt. If the question is inappropriate then delete it already!
