No he did not. Mercutio answers Tybalt's challenge to Romeo. They begin having a sword fight. Then Tybalt attempts to stab Romeo but his sword goes under Romeo's arm and fatally wounds Mercutio.

Another Answer:

There is no direct indication of Tybalts intentions in the script. It simply reads, "Tybalt under Romeo's arm thrusts Mercutio in." So, whether Tybalt intended to stab Romeo or Mercutio is up for interpretation. Some directors stage Tybalt's thrust as an accident resulting from harmless swordplay.

Yes, it was an accident. After it happened everyone thought Mercutio (being the funny guy) was just joking about being wounded even though he really was hurt. They realized it was no joke when Mercutio fell down dead. Tybalt and his crew had already ran off because Tybalt knew what he had done.

No, it was no accident. To the extent that Tybalt shoved a pointy sword in the general direction of Mercutio's middle, it is ridiculous to call it an accident, although no doubt he expected Mercutio to parry the thrust. Mercutio thinks that he would have parried it if Romeo had not got in his way. But it was no accident; it's like saying that it was an accident to aim a gun you know to be loaded at someone's chest and fire and then be surprised that he wasn't wearing a Kevlar vest.

yeah tybalt wanted to kill Romeo but as a friend mercutio could not stand there watching Romeo getting wild. So he fought tybalt instead and died during the battle. Romeo then killed Tybalt...

Tybalt probably wanted to fight Romeo without killing him. As much as the Capulets and Montagues fought, they did not usually kill each other. You can see how the attitudes change after Mercutio and Tybalt die--both Romeo and Tybalt were considered to have crossed the line. Lady Capulet planned to have cutthroats sent out to murder Romeo because she was so mad.

Why does Tybalt want to kill Romeo?

Romeo had to kill someone, in order for the sequence of events to happen properly. Tybalt has been set up as a quarrelsome man who imagines that he has a grudge against Romeo for crashing Capulet's party (Capulet didn't seem to mind) and so will inevitably create a fight, which creates the occasion for Romeo to kill him.

Why did Tybalt kill Romeo's best friend?

Tybalt killed Mercutio(Romeos friend) because Mercutio was taunting him which resulted in a fight. However, although Tybalt hated Mercutio, he never actually intended to kill him.

Why does mercutio decide to fight Tybalt and save romeo?

Mercutio does not "save Romeo" in the play by fighting Tybalt. Tybalt is about to walk away in contempt of the coward Romeo who will not fight him, and Mercutio gets involved, ostensibly to save Romeo's honour but basically just to get into a scrap. In the 1996 Baz Luhrman movie, the director has Tybalt beating Romeo when he will not fight, which does prompt Mercutio to join the fight. In that version Mercutio thinks that Tybalt will kill Romeo and that he needs to intervene to save his life. It's a more flattering read for Mercutio than what Shakespeare wrote.

Who picks a fight with Tybalt?

Romeo picks a fight with Tybalt in Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet" after Tybalt insults him and his friends at a party. Tybalt challenges Romeo to a duel, but Romeo refuses to fight. This leads to Mercutio, Romeo's friend, stepping in and fighting Tybalt instead, resulting in tragic consequences.

In Romeo and Juliet who killed Mercutio's?

Tybalt killed Mercutio. First Tybalt was insulting Mercutio, Mercutio got furious and Tybalt and Mercutio took out their swords and began to fight. Romeo tried to break the fight up but instead blocks Mercutio from getting Tybalt, while Tybalt was able to stab Mercutio right in the gut.

Write about the fight between mercuito and Tybalt. How does it start Who dies and what does Romeo try to do Who dies and how?

In the fight between mercuito and Tybalt: Tybalt comes into the court place and mercutio starts egging him on. Pretty soon they start fighting but its not a serious fight. Tybalt is really waiting to kill romeo because he is mad at him for going to the capulets party. Then romeo shows up and he doesnt want to kill Tybalt bc he is now married to Juliet and they are technicaly cousins. Tybalt doesnt know this and he is still fighting mercutio. Then romeo interferes to stop the fight but Tybalt accidentaly stabs mercutio when romeo gets in the way which kills mercutio. Then romeo goes to avenge mercutio and he ends of stabbing Tybalt, who then dies. Then romeo is banished to mantua by the prince.

When did James orange die?

From: Benvolio To: Prince Escalus Date: 5th June 1651 Subject: The killings of Mercutio and Tybalt. This will explain the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt. The Montague's and the Capulet's have been sworn enemies for years. Tybalt was leaving the streets to get away from Romeo because Tybalt had killed Mercutio and he knew that Romeo would not agree but then Romeo slew Tybalt. I wanted Mercutio to leave the streets because I am a close friend to Romeo, but he would not go because he wanted to kill Tybalt. When Tybalt arrived he wanted Mercutio not to walk. Mercutio was offended because he did not agree with Tybalt. Mercutio did threaten me. I fought with Mercutio because he had threatened me. Romeo said "This days black fate on more days both depend, this but begins the woe others must end" Romeo wanted to stop because he thought if they die he will. Mercutio died because Tybalt had slew him. Romeo chased after Tybalt because he had killed Mercutio I think Tybalt is most to blame because he started the killing.
