The word 'proscenium' is defined as "the part of a theatre stage in front of the curtain". It can also refer to the stage of an ancient theatre. With regard to playing spaces there are the following: proscenium: where the action is on a stage and the stage itself does not jut out into the audience or house space. thrust: the stage itself juts out into the house and the audience is on 3 sides - front, stage left and stage right. arena: theatre in the round where the audience is on all sides.
It's round and it has three floors. You can stand near the stage, those were the best seats. The Theatre was the one of the stages for Shakespeare's men to perform on
The shape of the Globe Theatre's stage is 'circular'.
Advantages of Theatre in the round:· The audience feels included in the play, and equally the actors on stage feel included in the audience.· There is less division between actors and audience·Disadvantages of Theatre in the round:· It is very intimidating having all those people completely surrounding you, it kind of gives the feeling of claustrophobia, because there is no where you can onstage to be away from the audience· You have to be much more careful about how you structure your piece, because you have to think of if you will be able to be seen by the audience· You have to have actors in diagonals rather than straight lines, and you will always have your back to one side of the audience
