Quick answer to this is NO !!

A converter will ONLY work with unencrypted channels. IE Freeview channels. For encrypted serviced for eg: SKY HD, it will not be compatible with the HDCP (copy protection) signal, which must remain digital.

A HDMI to Component cable will only work with an ANALOGUE HDMI port, and as you can imagine, these are extremely rare.

I work for SKY, and we are currently looking into ways to solve these issues, but at the moment, it's possibly a firmware update (via USB stick) from the manufacturers website, or putting up with a non-hd signal until you upgrade your TV to a truly Hd-Ready (look for the logo!) set.

OR.... you could try to request, or get hold of a Thompson HD box, which was manufactured with component outs. (but is now discontinued. Sky have very limited stock of these, and they are only available in A-Grade (refurb) condition. (which is still excellent ;)

Hope this helps !!

Can HDMI convert to component video?

You cannot convert one to the other. HDMI is digital, and has built-in Digital Rights Management (copy protection). Component is analog and has no protection. Some upper model surround receivers can 'up convert' component to HDMI, but will not allow HDMI sources to play on a TV with only component video inputs.

Does Intel 945 chipset support HDMI video out - I would use a VGA to HDMI converter but I don't think the 945 is capable right?

The 945 should be able to utilize a VGA to HDMI converter, no problem.

Is there adapters for component cables to HDMI cables?

Analog component signals are completely different to digital HDMI. There is no simple adaptor cable because the analog signals require processing to convert to digital. There are converter units that will perform the processing as dedicated converters but it may also be possible to use other equipment such as DVD recorders. Many have analog inputs with an HDMI output and it is often possible to route a signal straight through the unit. Converting from HDMI to analog component is rather harder. In fact it is not possible to do it using authorized hardware. HDMI uses a copy protection system known as HDCP which encodes the signal. Converting that HDMI signal to analog removes the copy protection and no legitimate devices are available that will remove copy protection. There are some exceptions to the HDCP system, mostly for non commercial content but in these cases, there are normally easier ways to obtain analog copies. There are a handful of unauthorized converters but be warned that even if they operate now, they can be disabled if they are known to be unlicensed devices. I don't know about the truthfulness or accuracy of the above information , but a PS3 has an HDMI input and does have optional cables that have a component connection at the HDTV side and a HDMI connection on the other side. They ran about $30 and are designed to connect a PS3 to a HDTV with component cables and may work for your connection

Can VGA to HDMI cables work as HDMI to VGA?

Unfortunately VGA to HDMI cables are kind of a scam. The problem is VGA is an analog signal and HDMI is a digital signal. A cable is not capable of converting something from analog to digital or the other way around. In order to connect between a VGA and an HDMI connection you must use an active converter that will convert from one format to another. These converters are going to be considerably more expensive than just a cable, but they'll actually get the job done. These converters run between $60-$300+ depending on the capabilities of the converter.

Will a HDMI to av video converter work the opposite way round and convert the av video signal to HDMI so you can connect your ps2 to a HDMI port in your tv?

No it won't. The converters are complex devices that process a signal to convert from one form to another. Each device has a designated input and output and they will not operate in any other way.

There are a couple ways to connect VGA to HDMI, the easiest are either using a converter or a cable. What you choose should depend on your needs. Where can i find a converter for a HDMI cable for PS3 to go into the PS3 and it's a venturer lcd tv from last year and every converter i have found does not fit anywhere?

go to bestbuy and ask them for hdmi for ps3 or eb gamesFirst you need to determine if your TV has a HDMI, component ,or A/V input. Once you have that information the PS3 cable you purchase must match what the TV has for input. If your TV does not have a HDMI plug then you do not buy a converter, you purchase a PS3 component cable or use the A/V cable that comes with the PS3.

Do you have to have a HDMI cable for the PS3 to work?

Is a PS3 HDMI or component?

HDMI gives a potentially higher signal quality than component video - but whether you will get higher picture quality depends on the quality of your input signal. Blu ray needs HDMI, but anything at 720i or lower will get by on component.
