No, the original hairspray was made in the 80s' and the most recent hairspray was remade in 2007, i think, or 2006. Either way neither were made in the 60s i hope that helped! :]

That was adapted for a Broadway play. Then the new movie Hairspray was based on the play. I can't read the small print on the DVD jacket to identify the writers of Hairspray 2007, and I'm too lazy to put it into the player and read the credits.
