In a nutshell, The Little Princess is about a young girl, Sara, the daughter of a wealthy soldier, who is sent to London for her education. She attends an upper-class school, where the headmistress does not like her. When the girl's father dies, apparently penniless, the girl is relegated to live in the attic and treated as a servant.
Another wealthy man from India arrives to live next door to the school. He is searching for his friend's daughter. Without giving away too much more of the story, the friend of Sara's father finds her - and all is well once more. The book is well worth reading.
I love this book! Here are the characters:
-Sara Crewe, the main character and the protagonist.
-Ralph Crewe, the father of Sara, who leaves her alone at a boarding school and dies in the story. She is supposedly rich when she first comes to the boarding school, but when her father dies, he leaves her penniless.
-Sara's rather stupid and naive friend, Ermengarde.
-The headmistress of Sara's boarding school, who at first treats Sara like loyalty but then turns her into a servant once her father dies.
-Becky, Sara's other friend, who is also a servant.
-The kind gentleman who takes Sara in when her father dies.
This is a list of the major characters, but throughout the story, there are some other minor characters as well. Enjoy the book!
Sara Crewe and according to what happened to her is based on an author Frances Hodgson Burnett. Even though her story and the characters are fictional, it does take place in a real event in London, England at the turn of the century. And it does have a message for people to help other people no matter what hopeless, bad things lie ahead is to always keep going and never lose hope. And always believe the good things would come in the end.
