How would Romeo's life and Juliet's have changed if instead of brawling the Montagues and the Capulets had obeyed the instructions of their prince and kept the peace?

Actually the Montagues and Capulets did a pretty good job of not brawling after the Prince made that declaration in Act 1. The problem actors were Tybalt and Mercutio, and Tybalt was not a Capulet (he was the son of Mrs. Capulet's brother) nor was Mercutio a Montague (he was a relative of the Prince, which is why he got invited to Capulet's party). Let's see what might have happened if we take these two out of the picture.Romeo and Juliet get married at the end of Act 2. They spend all day waiting for the night to come, and that night they consummate their marriage. Now, with Friar Lawrence's help, they announce their marriage to their parents. It is consummated so the marriage cannot be annulled.One of two things happens at this point. Possibly Capulet and Montague are relieved to see the end of the fighting and embrace the opportunity to reconcile. Since Romeo and Juliet are the heirs of their respective families, the family interests and businesses are happily and successfully joined in them.On the other hand, knowing that Romeo and Juliet are joined "til death do them part" they might try to make that happen as soon as possible. Hired toughs would be sent to get Romeo into a fight by the Capulets, and secret poisoners sent by the Montagues try to kill Juliet. Both eventually succeed, leaving the situation just as it is in the play.
You don't need to talk about "the Montagues and Capulets" here. There is only one man who cannot keep the peace: Tybalt. If Tybalt had not been so insistent on getting Romeo into a fight, which he starts doing in Act 1 Scene 5, Mercutio would not have been killed, and Romeo would not have felt it necessary to avenge him. He would not have killed Tybalt and would not have been banished. Act 3 Scene 1 would never have happened. Romeo and Juliet would have consummated their marriage and then . . . well, it's hard to say. In the source Shakespeare got the story from they got together secretly for months before the tragedy happened. If they did not tell their parents, tragedy would be bound to strike sooner or later. And if they did tell their parents that they were secretly married and who knows, maybe Juliet was pregnant . . .
