Epic relates to episodes, as in a series of independent stories that together form a fuller narrative (with the beginning, middle, and end of a central theme or character). Brecht's plays are structured in such a way that each act conforms an independent story that when placed in a certain order come together to tell a full narrative and thus an epic. Whilst its debatable if TV shows are true epics (e.g. the lack of a central theme/character, retroactive continuity, etc.) some examples include epic poems such as Beowulf or Cartoons such as Dragonball.

Brecht wanted to break down the 4th wall of acting and use "over-acting" to make the audience more involved and make them really think about the decisions the characters had to make ie in the caucasian chalk circle where the servat girl had to decide whether to take the murdered kings baby and risk being captured. hope i helped x Hey, the above is right about breaking down the 4th wall of realism. The main objective of his Epic Theatre was to challenge the viewers to change their social situation. Brecht was a Marxist and so used his plays to communicate how the working classes are oppressed in Capitalist societies (a common belief Marixists hold-they're not Communists but close to it lol). The Caucasian Chalk Circle is a good example of this as it shows the servant being chased and harassed by the wealthy and powerful members of society and the poor having to fight for their rights/freedom/justice etc. Brecht used Epic theatre because it was completely different to the Dramatic theatre of the time (Stanislavsky/Realism etc) and so had a greater impact on his audience Cheers :)
