Creon, in Sophocles' "Antigone," views nepotism skeptically, prioritizing loyalty and competence over familial ties in governance. He believes that appointing leaders based on merit rather than relationships ensures the stability and welfare of the state. This perspective is evident in his harsh treatment of Antigone, who defies him due to her familial loyalty, highlighting Creon's commitment to Law and Order over personal connections. Ultimately, his stance reflects a belief that effective leadership must transcend personal relationships for the greater good.

That it starts up Creon's reversal process and that it foreshadows Creon's downfall is the significance of Teiresias' prophecy against Creon in "Antigone" by Sophocles (495 B.C.E. - 405 B.C.E.).Specifically, Teiresias the blind prophet sets in motion what no one else can. He prophesies that what goes around in Thebes will come back around to Creon and his family. Creon is so upset that he reverses his policy of non-burial of the disloyal Theban dead and Antigone's death sentence.
Nepotism is defined as: "patronage bestowed or favoritism shown on the basis of family relationship, as in business and politics." Technically, the opposite of nepotism would be "anti-nepotism" or an "anti-nepotism policy." Although not an absolute opposite, the word "meritocracy" is defined as "A system in which advancement is based on individual ability or achievement." which is sufficiently contrasting to the meaning of "nepotism".

I think there is a misunderstanding of the meaning of Nepotism. Nepotism is the practice of a relative preferring a relative for a position or benefit over a better qualified person. In some ways this is illegal in all of the USA, hiring for example. In some ways it is not.
