I Mean Gentoo Linux and Red Hat Linux are the best Linux flavors. I u want both things then Best approach is to have Windows 2000 Professional with SP4 installed as well as either Red Hat Linux (Fedora Core) or Gentoo Linux installed on the same hard-drive with a DUAL Boot mode. I have DUAL Bool with Windows 2000 Pro as well as Fedora Core which is Red Hat Linux version 10.

Sounds like a homework assignment to me... I don't usually do people's homework for them but if I were being asked the above questions I'd probably recommend UNIX.
Magnetic media like a hard disk drives are fairly fast so it is suitable for multimedia applications. Optical media like DVDs and CDs are much slower.

I dont think it is OS-dependant as much as language-dependant. In other words, I dont think there is much of a difference between UNIX and Windows, as long as you use a powerful software/language to do your number crunching. Two of the best that come to mind are C and MATLAB. Of course, there is nothing like assembly level programming, if you have the flair for it :).

Depending on how much in depth multimedia your getting into, windows works fine for most basic to intermediate video, and graphics editing. If your getting into extremely large video projects, MacIntosh is better suited for those types of work loads.
