ahhh yes...This is in the introduction to Romeo and Juliet and it is basically foreshadowing and summarizing the whole play. This quote refers to Romeo and Juliet taking their own lives because they feel they cannot live without each other.

  • "A pair" means two
  • "Crossed" means thwarted, defeated. "Star-crossed" means defeated or thwarted by the stars, which for those who believe in Astrology means fate.
  • "Lovers" I hope I do not have to explain.
  • "Take their life" does not mean to kill. It is part of the thought in the previous line: "From forth the fatal loins of these two foes . . . [they] take their life" That is, they are born to the foes, the two households both alike in dignity, the Capulets and Montagues. People are given life by their parents; when you are given something by someone, you take it from them. The lovers take life from their parents.

So taken together it means "two lovers thwarted by fate are born."

Is it true or false that when Othello demanded proof of his wife's disloyalty Iago said let us hide and ourselves behold the cursed fate of star-crossed lovers?

False. The expression "star-crossed lovers" is from Romeo and Juliet. Iago actually said, "How satisfied, my lord? Would you, the supervisor, grossly gape on- Behold her topp'd?" which is much coarser and less elegantly put but more to the point: Does Othello expect to actually catch Cassio in bed with Desdemona?

Why did kantniss kiss Peeta Mellark in the hunger games?

Katniss kissed Peeta because she needed to give the sponsors and viewers something to believe in. If they sold the "star-crossed lovers from District 12" thing than they would get sponsors and the sponsors would help them out with food, medicine, etc. So Katniss and Haymitch have an unspoken agreement. If she sells the star-crossed lover thing from inside the arena he would be able to get them sponsors and help.
