Where did Shakespeare perform?

Primarily in London, England, and occasionally in the towns around, when plague caused the London theatres to be closed. He acted in a number of venues in London including the Palace, the Inns of Court, the Rose, Curtain, Newington Butts, Globe and Blackfriars theatres, and private homes.

We cannot give an exhaustive answer to this, since we do not know much about his early career. Suffice it to say that among the places we are confident that he performed are The Theatre playhouse, The Curtain playhouse, The Rose playhouse, Newington Butts playhouse, The Globe playhouse, The Blackfriars playhouse, the court of Queen Elizabeth I, the Court of King James I, at the wedding of King James's daughter, in the hall at the Inns of Court, in the private homes of certain noblemen, and various temporary venues in Kent (during their 1596 tour).
On various stages in various theatres in the greater London area, such as the Theatre and The Globe. He may also have travelled with the company when the theatres were closed for plague.

The Lord Chamberlain's Men had a number of "home theatres" where they regularly performed over the years: The Theatre (1594-6), The Curtain (1596-9) The Globe Theatre (1599-1613) and the Blackfriars (1608- ). They also apparently performed at the Rose in the 1594-95 season.

But they did not only perform in theatres. They also performed at court before the King or Queen, at the houses of noble people, and at private halls like the Inns of Court (Twelfth Night was performed there). And when the theatres were closed for plague as they were from time to time, the company would go on tour of the country, performing in innyards and guildhalls on makeshift stages.

His first shows were performed away from London, but eventually he was able to take his theater apart, (and I'm not kidding about this) roll it a few miles on carts, and rebuild it in the middle of london. This was called the Globe Theater, and it was where most of the shows were performed. Unfortunately, it was closed in the 1640's. Now in it's place stands a replica where the shows are performed to this day.

Shakespeare was not an impressario--his plays were put on by theatre companies and theatre owners like Philip Henslowe. In his early career, Shakespeare was free-lance and if someone wanted to pick up his script and produce it, they did, at whatever venue they usually played at. After 1594, Shakespeare was a charter member of The Lord Chamberlain's (later King's) Men and he was the house playwright for the group. All of his plays were put on by the Chamberlain's Men at the playhouses where they regularly played: The Theatre, The Curtain, The Globe and the Blackfriars.
