Within the context of the play, the death of the two principal characters is all-important since the action or plot of the play is at an end once this has happened. There only remains the need to have a dramatic epilogue (here the explanation by the friar and the reconciliation of the feuding families)

Outside of the play, their deaths are unimportant; they are fictional characters.

If he hadn't died, he would be the oldest person in the world by far.

His death did provide us with some interesting information about him in his death registration, his tombstone and monument in Stratford Church and his will.
