The answer lies in the Leslie Cube (look it up in an internet search). Though the cube demonstrates which surface radiates heat better the principle is the same. A dark colour absorbs solar energy better than a light surface and a matt surface likewise absorbs solar energy better than a gloss surface. Think of it this way ... the amount of solar energy hitting two side by side surfaces is the same for each but the light glossy one will reflect more solar energy and therefore absorb less while the dark matt surface will reflect less solar energy and therefore absorb more. Hence solar heat collectors are black.

What is earthship made out of?

Earthships are typically constructed using a combination of natural and recycled materials such as rammed earth, tires packed with earth, bottles, and cans. These materials help provide thermal mass and insulation, making the buildings energy efficient and sustainable. Earthships also often incorporate passive solar design principles to maximize solar gain and minimize energy usage.

Can excessive solar gain be a health hazard in homes?

Excessive solar gain is excessive heating due to sunlight, or due t a solar heating system. If it is not balanced by adequate cooling and ventilation, it can become a hazard because it can result in temperatures that are too high inside the house.

Can you use both a solar cover and the liquid solar cover Is there any advantage to it?

You can use both but the only advantage would be that you would still gain some heat and evaporation prevention from the liquid cover while the standard solar cover was off or while swimmers were present. When the standard cover is on you will gain very little benefit from having both.

What is the retention of heat from the sunlight called?

The retention of heat from sunlight is called solar heat gain. This refers to the process by which a building absorbs and retains heat from the sun, typically through windows or other building materials.
