Answer: The energy for heat, nerve impulses and movement come from the food you eat. It is analogous to a fire. The carbon compounds are converted to carbon dioxide with a related release of heat. The body has a number of feedback loops to regulate the heat it produces. Part of this is to shunt food into storage (fat) if the energy is not required. If the body is too hot from exertion or external temperature,the body secretes sweat to enhance cooling by evaporation. If the body is too cold muscles shiver to generate heat. The skin thickens (goose bumps) or the hairs stand on end to increase insulation values. We may consciously rub our body or hands to generate heat from friction.

Answer: The source of energy for the human body is the food you eat, which is digested into a form which the blood can carry round the body to provide energy to the brain and muscles. Keeping the body at normal temperature is another function, essentially controlled by the nervous system.
