Explain why the kinetic energy and potiential energy of a mass spring system can never be negative?

Energy, which in the scientific sense is the capacity to do work, is never negative, in the system you describe or in any other system that we have yet been able to observe or devise. What would negative energy mean? You would have to put energy into the system in order to increase the energy to nothing. You would have a system that not only can't do work, it nullifies work, in some manner. That has never been observed. This is not to say that it couldn't exist, but so far we haven't found such a phenomenon.

How is tension created in The Monkey's Paw?

When the son is brought back from the dead, the parents begin to think about what he will look like. But, remembering the nature of his accident, we are left to imagine the grotesque mangled mess he must be in. As he's walking up the walkway, the sounds he makes and the way the writer couples the growing trepidation of his parents with each step he takes builds up a lot of tension. The tension reaches its peak when they finally hear the knocking on the door, and are too afraid to answer it due to the abomination they had slowly created in their heads of their son's image. However, it's not just about what he looks like makes his parents afraid. They also begin to think of the evil behind what was done, and this contributes to the growing tension. The fact that our minds are never relieved with a description about what the son actually looks like in reality is the tease that keeps us on edge.

Can absolute pressure be negative?

Yes, but only in solids and liquids in special situations. Surface tension can allow liquids in very narrow channels to be placed in tension. This is believed to explain how some trees can pull sap hundreds of feet above the ground.

What do magnets never do?

Magnets never run out of energy.

How can you make a feather sink in water?

As long as the feather stays all by itself, it will never sink in water, because its density is much less than the density of water. If you really need to sink it, then you must tie it to something much more dense, like a rock or a fishing sinker.
