There were a number of countries in the 20th Century that at one time or another had governments that fit the description of "Dictatorship". Here is a list of the most significant ones that had major impacts on the world when they existed:

1. Italy under Mussolini. Italy was the first of what was called 'Fascist States";

2. Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler;

3. Imperial Japan under the "Divine" Emperor and assisted by men such as Tojo;

4. The Soviet Union under Stalin; The USSR can still be called a dictatorship before and after Stalin;

5. The Peoples Republic of China; despite all of its economic reforms, China calls itself a "communist" nation and only the Communist Party there makes all major decisions;

6. Spain under General Franco;

7. Vietnam. This country is controlled by the Communist Party despite all economic reforms;

8. North Korea. This has been a family run Communist regime and still is.

9. Cambodia under Pol Pot;

10. All of the Communist nations based on the Soviet takeovers after WW2. This includes:

East Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Albania, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia.

11. Cuba Under Castro and the dictator before Castro.
