In an autocracy, rulers are typically not chosen through democratic processes; instead, they often come to power through means such as inheritance, military force, or political maneuvering. In many cases, autocratic leaders maintain their position through coercive control, suppression of dissent, and lack of political pluralism. Succession may be predetermined, with leaders designating heirs, or it can occur through coups or other forms of takeover. Overall, the selection process is characterized by limited public participation and a concentration of power.
