They seemed to slip away from these ideals under Jimmy Carter's term. A self proclaimed disaster if a President, he managed to put into place the crisis in the banking industry we have today (1978 CRA laws) and destroyed our international ability to collect information. The fall of Iran from democracy can be traced directly to his failed policies.
