The golden age of communism was a period where many countries were communist. They were the years 1979-1983, which a global extent was communist. (In every country).

Thus, it has shrunk, with only 4 countries remaining.

- China

- Cuba

- Laos

- Vietnam

(You could also say that this is socialism, which countries state they are communist, but they are socialist and "building" communism.)

In reality, communism died with Mao in 1976. The two biggest supporters of the global communist movement were China and the Soviet Union. Stalin died in 1953, and Mao in 76. After that, the golden era was over. Since then, there are many who call themselves communist, but actually practiced capitalism.
