Richard Nixon (born January 9, 1913 in Yorba Linda, California; died April 22, 1994 in New York, New York) was the 37th President of the United States, serving between January 20, 1969 and August 9, 1974, including the whole of 1970.

He was the 36th US Vice President under President Dwight Eisenhower, serving from 1953 to 1961. He lost the Presidential election of 1960 to John F. Kennedy. He was elected as the 37th U.S. President in 1968 and took office on January 20, 1969. Re-elected in 1972, Nixon resigned from office in 1974 in order to avoid impeachment over the Watergate scandal. His second Vice President, Gerald Ford, served out the rest of his term and pardoned him for his offenses.
