Countries under Communist rule were:

The United Soviet Socialists Republic,* Afghanistan, Albania, Angola, Benin, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Congo, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic and Slovakia as of Dec 31, 1992), Hungary, East Germany, Ethiopia, Mongolia, Mozambique, Poland, Romania, Somalia, South Yemen, and Yugoslavia.**

There are still 7 countries run by Communists. Two of them were elected democratically: Cyprus and Nepal. The other 5 are run as dictatorships: China, Cuba, North Korea, Laos, and Vietnam. China, though, has been moving towards capitalism though it's still a Dictatorship.

*-The United Soviet Socialists Republic officially dissolved in 1991. The countries formed after the dissolution are the Russia Federation, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

**-Yugoslavia dissolved starting on May 19, 1991. The formal end came on April 27, 1992. The countries formed from Yugoslavia is Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Montenegro.
