Often times stereotyping occurs in the adolescence age group when teenagers put each other in "groups". They believe the Star Football Player to be cocky and have a lot of friends, but that may not be the truth at all. They believe the girl with black hair and listens to Rock Music is automatically goth and assumes that she has stability problems. Often times you can catch yourself stereotyping people without thinking about it, especially if that is something you grew up hearing or watching happen. It is sad that this type of thing occurs but it does a lot more than people would think.

2 How can stereotyping effect group relations?

Stereotyping can effect group relations by making one group feel that they know things about another group, when in fact they do not. Stereotyping mistakenly makes people think that all people of one race, one gender, one age group, or one income bracket are the same. This is not true. It can cause people to expect bad things from someone without a valid reason. It can also cause someone to trust someone without a valid reason.
