This is the Old Testament, and depending on your strain of Christianity, this may or may not matter to you. Under the interpretation I was taught, the Law no longer applies: it's there as a guide not as literal "ironclad" daily living. A lot of Christians don't believe this (they still believe that the Old Testament is to be taken literally.) Sadly they don't see they own hypocrisy; either they are born Jews and are under the Law, are born Gentiles and not under the Law, or are neither and Christ means nothing to them. If they think they are Jews under the Law, they don't live it (bacon, pork, not eating shellfish, not allowing the woman out while she's on her period, going to a Rabbi and not a doctor to be allowed back in the temple after being sick, actually doing NO work on the real Sabbath (Fri sundown to Sat sundown), and not picking your spouse, others do that.) Either you were born a Jew or you weren't. ** see discussion.

Continue Learning about Psychology

Psychology is just sinful human beings sinfully thinking about sinful human beings?

While psychology is the study of human behavior and mental processes, it is based on empirical evidence and scientific methods rather than moral judgments. Psychology seeks to understand and explain human behavior, thoughts, and emotions, and uses research and data to develop theories and treatments to promote mental well-being. It is not inherently sinful but a discipline aimed at enhancing our understanding of ourselves and improving our mental health.

What were freud's favorite books?

His favorite novel was Dickens' David Copperfield because "The characters are individualized; they are sinful without being abominable."Freud also admired Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov, for its literary power yet also for its oedipal and parricidal themes. Likewise he valued Shakespeare's Hamlet and Sophocles' Oedipus the King for these same qualities.

Are women more sinful than men?

Women and men have equal propensity for sinful behavior. It is commonly believed that woman is more sinful because of the story of Adam and Eve where the serpent (devil) convinced Eve to eat of the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and she in turn gave to fruit to Adam to eat. The scripture clearly says she ate the fruit and gave some to Adam who was with her.1Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God actually say, 'You shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?" 2And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" 4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.Genesis 3Another AnswerBy the same reasoning, the quote from Genesis must also be interpreted that the male is more susceptible to the influence of others and less likely to be able to think for himself or make his own decisions.Neither of these are true. Humans have a range of capacities and each makes decisions based on what they know, what they feel, and what they believe, not by their gender. Believing this interpretation of Genesis is either prejudice (prejudging by gender) or an excuse (if you are the sinner). or that the male (Adam) is passive aggressive. There are any number of ways to interpret this passage, why is only one presented.

Why does Hester worry about Pearls personality In what way does Hester feel that the circumstances of Pearls birth might have affected Pearls personality?

Hester worries about Pearl's personality because she fears that the circumstances of Pearl's birth, as a result of Hester's sin of adultery and the public shame attached to it, may have influenced Pearl's upbringing and development. Hester believes that Pearl's defiant and wild nature is a product of her being conceived in a sinful relationship and raised in an environment of judgment and shame.

What causes pride?

Pride is caused from a lack of realistic perspective about ourselves. A realistic perspective of ourselves is : " We are flawed, immoral individuals." On our very best day we aren't good enough to earn God's gift of eternal life. We may seem like we are doing good or even great, but must realize that God's ways are higher than our ways and his thoughts higher than our thoughts. We become prideful when we lose sight of our sinful nature. Looking to Jesus and the redemptive work of the cross we can remind ourselves that it is only through the cross we become worthy of God's grace.
