Freud viewed the primary motivating force for humans as the drive to be respected by their peers (and even further a desire to be respected by the elites who decide who is respectable or not).
The life drive (libido, survival, propagation, hunger, thirst, sex) and the death drive.

The life drive (libido, survival, propagation, hunger, thirst, sex) and the death drive.
The sovereign force that humans possess to understand, break down, and rearrange the natural world.
Freudian psychology emphasized unconscious thought processes. Freudian psychology derives from the work of Dr. Sigmund Freud. Dr. Freud is the founder of psychoanalysis which studies the conscious and unconscious elements of the mind.
Human nature is the driving force. Humans are living creatures and all living creatures have the same innate driving forces; to support life (eat, drink, protection from the elements), to defend life (in humans the response to blink or duck are forms of that), and to reproduce (is it any wonder that sex sells, it's a force that will not be denied). Unless a persons nature has been distorted by circumstances or corrupting influences, most of everything that humans do can be traced back to these forces.
Freud proposed that the personality consisted of three structures called the Id, Ego and Superego. Each of these structures is responsible for some aspect of our thinking and behavior.Id = represents our wants, desires, instant gratification, etc. We have no awareness of this part of our psyche, but it can be a driving force in our behavior. The Id is rooted in the desire for pleasure.Superego = represent the moralistic and parental side of our psyche. The supergo attempts to control our basic instincts but it too is outside of our conscious awareness.Ego - represents the rational part of our psyche. It is the closest of the three to our conscious awareness. Ego allows us to live in the world and balance the needs of our basic and instinctive wants and desires (id) and our moralistic and parental restrictions (superego).
It depends on your understanding of effective. The humanist view of life is a set of ethics in which humans themselves and human values take a central position as opposed to world views where one person or a god or a divine force take a central position.
