Answer For the most part, the American and British soldier was not tempted to desert their army because they knew that the German army did not have anything better to offer. However, if the soldier was tired and scared, the Propaganda might convince him that all hope is lost and to give up fighting. The German propaganda would try to make the soldier think that the people back home had forgotten about him OR to doubt his political leaders.

"Propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole people... Propaganda works on the general public from the standpoint of an idea and makes them ripe for the victory of this idea." Adolf Hitler wrote these words in his book Mein Kampf (1926), in which he first advocated the use of propaganda to spread the ideals of National Socialism-among them racism, antisemitism, and anti-Bolshevism. Following the Nazi seizure of power in 1933, Hitler established a Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda headed by Joseph Goebbels. The Ministry's aim was to ensure that the Nazi message was successfully communicated through art, music, theater, films, books, radio, educational materials, and the press.

How can propaganda can help further a cause?

Propaganda can often to indispensable to a political or social cause. It has the ability to let the masses know about your particular view of idea set. Furthermore it may often sway individuals to your cause. Propaganda's ability to control and shift public opinion can be seen in many places throughout human history. In Soviet Russia, the industrialization of England, and of course throughout the World Wars. Propaganda is of course the spread of information that is prujudiced towards a certain point of view and ignores contradictory information that may modify or challenge the propaganda's purpose which is to support a course of action. The most dreadful example of this was in Nazi Germany. Its propaganda became a tool of the Nazi goverment to dehumanize Jews.
