Sponsors are important in 12-step groups for a number of reasons.
1. They serve as a accountability person. They can be someone you can go to, share concerns with, ask for help, and trust not to judge you. Emotional and spiritual growth requires self-honest and total acceptance of yourself. You won't get over drinking if you cannot face the fact you currently have a drinking problem and likely other character issues that contribute to it. So a sponsor is a safe person to go to who can help you explore yourself.
2. They have likely faced what you have. Usually, a sponsor in AA is someone who once had a drinking problem. So they know what you are going through and can help you because they have been there. You know the path to sobriety is possible because they did it.
3. Being a sponsor is actually step 12 of the 12 steps. Once you are on the path to wholeness, you can reinforce it by sharing with other people. So by having a sponsor, you are helping others on their journey to sobriety.
4. They can help you in a time of crisis. If something just happened and you are in a time of crisis, it is tempting to go back to the bottle. Instead, you should call your sponsor. Not only can you call your sponsor as a distraction from getting drunk, your sponsor might have some tips on how to directly deal with the crisis in ways that don't involve drinking. If you are directly facing your problems and learning healthy ways to depend on other people, then there is no reason you'd need to drink as a crutch.
people sponsor other people (like footballers) to get money and raise a lot.
Because they sponsor the famous football team Manchester United, but they have said after this season they will no longer sponsor the team.
Self-help groups are effective if you are in the right support group and really want to change. You would really need a good "sponsor" too who you can lean on during your period of recovery or inner growth. Another thing to keep in mind is that you would need to be a good candidate for self-help groups. If you have severe emotional issues, you might be better off with a therapist. Likewise, if you are currently using drugs or alcohol, you might need to go to a medical detox center.
Everyone used propaganda during World War II and most of it was untrue.
This is a question a manipulative person would ask if they were trying to have people view them as the victim. You do not own other people. Stop trying to control everything and everyone. Of course, it's possible that I'm wrong and you're really being maltreated. In that case, you need to end your relationship. Whether it be business, friendship, or spousal. Get away from the person that's hurting you and start fresh. Be the bigger person. Not to puff up your ego, but because that's simply the right thing to do. But somehow I get the feeling it's the person you're trying to control that should really be leaving YOU.
Talk to your sponsor about it. We can't tell you what to share.
AA or Alcoholics Anonymous covers breakdowns in a person's will to stay sober by providing a sponsor who is available by phone to provide moral encouragement to people suffering from the disease.
An alcohol abuser could get treatment, or self help treatment by going to alcoholics anonymous meetings, as well as getting a sponsor. If the person can not do that, or doesn't want to, you could take them to a detox.
Just Don't Do Drugs You can go to a program called NA or Narcotics Anonymous and get a sponsor and get help and support to stay off drugs.
The "Big Book" of Alcoholics Anonymous outlines the program's spiritual principles and steps for recovery from alcoholism. It emphasizes the importance of surrendering to a higher power and working with a sponsor to achieve sobriety through personal growth and tangible actions. The book offers hope to those struggling with alcoholism by showing that there is a solution through faith, self-awareness, and service to others.
You can find AA sponsor poems on various recovery websites, in recovery literature, or by asking for recommendations from members of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Some members may have personal poems that they share with sponsees.

Although Alcoholics Anonymous speaks of alcohol allergy in the Big Book (Alcoholics Anonymous), alcoholism is not actually an allergy. Rather than being a rejection reaction by the immune system, alcohol addiction is an adaptation of the body -- principally the brain -- to the point of being unable to function efficiently without alcohol. This does not meet the medical definition of an allergy, but it was the best explanation they could come up with based on the medical knowledge of 75 years ago. We would not, however, suggest arguing this point with your sponsor or other old-timers. In a practical sense, if we treat alcoholism as an allergic reaction to alcohol the effect will be the same -- alcoholics need to avoid alcohol.
