The speed of a train will depend on a wide variety of factors from the type of train, age of train, how the train is being powered, what the train is hauling....etc.

The fastest recorded speed to date was 575 km/h (357 mph) set by a French TGV train in February 2007.

The old EMU's can usually go about 75mph and the new EMU's like class 377s can go about 100 mph. The fastest train is in the euro-tunnel company and goes about 155 mph

3 July 1938 Downhill grade. Official data indicates peak speed 202.6 km/h, mean speed (half-mile) 201.2 km/h. Speed documentation not fully reliable, actual speed was probably slightly lower, but will have reached the mark of 200.4 (124.52), Mallard suffered an overheated crankpin during the run, but was repaired and returned to traffic within 9 days.
