It depends on the model. Look on the dashboard by the fuel gauge, or inside the fuel door, to see if there is a label stating the required octane. The owner's manual will also give this information.
Cars made these days usually specify "regular" or "premium", which typically means 87 or 92 octane (or 91 in California). The middle grade is not used as a standard by the manufacturer.
Most cars, such as passenger cars, minivans, SUVs and trucks (non-diesel) will use 87 octane. The only time premium would be required would be if the car is a sports car or an exotic, such as a Toyota Supra.
Incidentally, putting premium gas in a car made for regular does not improve its performance and is a waste of money.
regular 87 octane.
no
Any. Tiburon engines do not require high-octane gasoline, although it never hurts.
Impossible to answer as you did not list the year.
High octane gasoline (petrol) only provides better fuel mileage in vehicles that require the high octane. In a normal engine running higher octane provides no benefit.
No, 87 octane is sufficient
While some purists argue that the higher the octane, the better it is for your engine, studies have shown that octane differences are too small for most engines to make any difference at all. Thus, the lowest octane for sale is usually adequate. However, some high-performance car manufacturers require you to use a higher octane for warranty reasons, so consult with the manufacturer of your vehicle to make sure you put in the minimum octane they require.
For the most part all small engines require 87 octane regular. Some 2 cycle engines require 89 octane gasoline. Refer to your owners manual.
The Mercury EFI outboards require a minimum octane rating of 87. Since the engine will operate on the lower octane fuel, it is a matter of personal preference.
According to the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis Owner Guide : ( " regular " unleaded gasoline , 87 octane )
