There are many places a child can be taken to ride Thomas the Train on. Some examples of these places include Strasburg Railroad and Tweetsie Railroad.
The First Transcontinental Railroad consisted of two pieces, the Union Pacific line running west from Omaha, Nebraska for 1,087 miles and the Central Pacific line running east from Sacramento, California for 690 miles. The two lines met in Promontory, Utah, and when the last spike was driven there on May 10, 1869, the total length of the railroad was 1,777 miles.
Andrew Jackson was the President in 1830 when the first US railroad , the B & O opened for business. Jackson was also the first sitting President to take a train ride.

In 1830 Cooper invented the steam locomotive called Tom Thumb, so it would be safe to say he was more than likely the first man to ride a train in the USA. However, Trevithick and Stephenson two early English pioneers of steam locomotives had each produced engines several years before Cooper.
The first President to ride a train was Andrew Jackson. He rode what was known as the iron horse from Baltimore.
