The Central Pacific Railroad, part of the First Transcontinental Railroad, gained the route to California. It was constructed by a group of investors known as the "Big Four," which included Leland Stanford, Collis Potter Huntington, Mark Hopkins, and Charles Crocker. They started building the railroad from Sacramento, California, eastward, ultimately connecting with the Union Pacific Railroad in Promontory Summit, Utah, in 1869. This completed the first rail link between the eastern United States and California, significantly impacting commerce and travel.
