If it is a limb, the term is usually 'amputation,' but the medical term is usually the Latin or Greek name for the body part with the suffix '-ectomy.' An appendectomy, for instance, is the removal of the vermiform appendix.
The suffix -ectomy means surgical removal or excision of a specified part of the body. It is commonly used in medical terminology to indicate a surgical procedure that involves cutting out or removing a particular organ or tissue from the body. Examples include tonsillectomy (removal of the tonsils) and appendectomy (removal of the appendix).

Atrophy simply implies the loss of mass of an organ/gland/tissue. for example, when someone injures their knee, and is not using the full range of motion for that joint due to pain, the muscle groups serving that knee will atrophy. Could also be arthrophy or joint disease.
