The Torah is primary; and its entire text is read over the course of each year in the synagogue. The rest of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) is secondary; only some portions are read in the synagogue. However, the entire Tanakh is taught and studied by Jews privately or in groups, along with other subjects such as Jewish laws and Talmud.
It is worth noting that while the Old Testament and Tanakh are similar, there are several differences between the two texts including: additional books in the Old Testament, additional chapters in the Old Testament, and changed words/translations.
The Torah is the five books that God gave to Moses. The Torah is considered to be the word of God by Jews. Christians follow the Old Testament which is a variation of the Torah with some mistranslations. To Jews there is nothing old about it, it is the eternal word of God and there is no 'New' Testament.
The Jews claim that there are 613 Laws in the First Five Books of the Old Testament.
The word Pentateuch comes from two Greek words meaning "five books". The first 5 books of the Old Testament are attributed to Moses and are also called the Books of Moses. For Jews, the Pentateuch is called the Torah.
The Old Testament. (The OT cover the first 39 books of the Bible, out of the 66 total books.) The most important books in the OT, in Judaism, are the first five books, known as the Torah (or Pentateuch).
The "Old Testament" is called that only by Christians. The first five books are the Torah, then there is the Nevi'im, or Prophets; and finally the Ketuvim, or Writings. These make up the holy scriptures for the Jews.
Traditionally, Christians use the whole old testament whereas Jews only use the first 5 books (called the Torah scrolls). Quite a lot of the Qu'ran draws on some old testament stories but changes it from the original, biblical version.
Jews regard all of the books of the Hebrew Bible as holy. The holiest part of the Bible are the first 5 books, called, "The Torah".
Orthodox Jews read all the 24 books of the Bible (Old Testament).
Hebrew Bibles contain 24 books divided into 3 parts: The Torah, The Prohets, and the Writings. Christian Bibles contain 66 books, divided into 2 parts: The Old Testament (39 books) and the New Testament (27 books) (Christians subdivide many books that Jews do not subdivide).
The old testament is made of the history of the Jews and the prophecies of the prophets , and life of the Jews under king.
The Jewish Bible goes by several names in English, including "The Hebrew Scriptures," "The Hebrew Bible," and "The Old Testament" (a term employed by Christians, not by Jews).Jews call it The TANAKH, which is a Hebrew acronym for the three sections it contains: Torah (Teachings, also known as the 5 books of Moses), Nevi'im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings). The Tanakh contains the 24 books found in the part of the Christian Bible called the "Old Testament." However, the Christian Old Testament was altered to support the teachings of Christianity.
