Official statistics of LDS Missionaries returning home early have not been released, but from what I have heard, the number has had a sharp increase in recent years. The increase in missionaries coming home early has been attributed to "technology addiction". That is, the kids can't stand that they can't use Social Media sites, listen to music, or otherwise be using technology at all times like they are used to. They are used to being constantly connected, and to suddenly be cut off from that is difficult. Some of this has been alleviated by issuing iPads (locked and monitored to only allow access to church-produced apps and web sites) to those serving in western nations and allowing some access to social media as "technology missionaries", reaching out to interested people virtually. Contrast this with 10 years ago, when many missionaries were not even allowed cell phones or email.
Increased access to pornography has also been a sad consequence of the tech revolution, and many missionaries have been too ashamed to confess and repent of pornography use until they are out, causing them to be sent home. The Church has put increased focus on raising awareness on the pornography issue and encouraging the youth not to be ashamed but to repent before applying for mission service so that they are fully qualified to serve and don't face the embarrassment and guilt of being sent home early.

Where in Europe does the Mormon religion come from?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) did not come from Europe. It began in 1830 in upstate New York, USA. Mormonism first reached Europe in 1837, when a group of missionaries was sent to Great Britain. In fact, the oldest continuous Mormon congregation in the entire world is located in Preston, England. It was established in 1837 shortly after the missionaries arrived there. Missionaries were sent to other European nations shortly afterward, and Mormon converts became quite plentiful in Germany, Holland, and Scandinavia.

What is the ration of men to women lds missionaries?

The exact ratio between men and women in the LDS missionary force is constantly changing, as missionaries leave and come home every week. However, generally, about 10% -20% of Mormon missionaries are women. The number of female LDS missionaries is expected to rise quite dramatically over the next several months as the minimum age requirement was lowered from 21 to 19, (as of October 2012) making a mission more accessible for many young women.

Why did the missionaries come to north?

North America was not populated by 'Missionaries' - the job of a missionary is to convert people who do not believe into believers. The early colonists of North America were not so much missionaries as religious refugees, fleeing to America so that they could set up communities free to worship as they wished/believed. This migration happened because of the religious oppression that was occurring in many part of Europe at the time.

Why do Mormons have to travel on overseas missions?

They don't. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) are encouraged to go on missions, but a mission is not required. Most Mormon missionaries are single young adults between 19 and 27 years old or retired adults. Missionaries are not required to go overseas, in fact, they usually serve in their home countries. When a Mormon decides to serve a mission, they submit an application to Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. Several weeks later, they will receive a letter informing them when and where they will serve. Most of the time, missionaries will be called to another area of their home country or to a neighboring country. This is usually most effective, because they will have the language and culture in common with those they are teaching. However, missionaries are called wherever there is need, and often there is need for missionaries in a country that simply can't supply enough missionaries. This is especially common for missionaries from the United States. Over half of Mormon missionaries are from the United States, but most Mormon missionaries serve outside of the United States. Serving in another country enables young people to develop and appreciation for other cultures as well as recognize the condition of those who are less fortunate than themselves. As for why Mormons serve missions, the first reason is that Jesus commands "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15) Mormons desire to follow the commandments of Jesus Christ, and travelling the world to preach the gospel is one of these commandments. In addition, by teaching and assisting others and giving years of selfless service, missionaries strengthen their own faith and form a unique relationship with God. Spending years away from the trends and popular things of the 'world' allows missionaries to come home with a better perspective of what is important in life. Young adult missionaries also often come home much better prepared for family and career than their peers since they develop service, discipline, responsibility, leadership, and goal-setting habits.
