To put it simply, religions were usually developed by people who say that they spoke toGod and are interpreting it. For example, Muslims believeMuhammad spoke to God and then wrote his words in a book called the Koran. Christians and the Jewish believe that God spoke to many people, and they all wrote a separate book of their experiences that went into a book called The Bible. The Jewish only believe in the Old Testament, while Christians believe in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Other religions like the ancient Egyptians' believed in many gods as a reason why certain things happen. Most religions spread by missionaries who preach their religion to others and slowly gather followers. Also centuries ago, the spread of religion was somewhat based on the governments of many eastern countries' influence.
