Akbar the great was not an educated person. His first motive, like almost all rulers, was to consolidate his empire. He treated the non-Muslims very kindly. He married Hindu women. He appointed Hindu generals in his army. He even invented a religion of his own 'Deen-i- Elahi, that was the emulgamation of Islam and Hinduism.

Aurangzeb was the great-grandson of Akbar. Akbar was a generous king and treated all religions equally. But Aurangzeb was a true Muslim. He revived Akbar's policies and re-imposed taxes on non-Muslims. Aurangzeb was the most cruel Mughal King while Akbar was the greatest ruler of the Mughal dynasty.
Aurangzeb was determined for power and he continued to spread his power or empire over most of the India.Most people say that the mughal empire declined because there was no one to see over the huge empire,this started because with Aurangzeb and because of that the people organized their own army(those were landlords)secretly ,became powerful and rebelled against Aurangzeb.Now a question arises why did they rebel against Aurangzeb when they were living in peace and harmony? Answer:Aurangzeb organized the Jizya tax which caused hardship with Aurangzeb most people thought that it was a strategy to turn non-Muslims into Muslims and they started to rebel and Aurangzeb couldn't do anything about as corruption began to grew between the army
Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb reimposed Jizya on non-Muslims in 1679. According to Mughal records, the Jizya was imposed on Hindus With the object of curbing the infidels, and of distinguishing the land of the faithful from an infidel land. Manucci says that Aurangzeb did this for two reasons: by this time his treasures had begun to shrink owing to expenditure on his campaigns; and secondly, to force the Hindus to become Muslims.
